Havant Civic Society was founded in October 2012 at a public meeting held in St Faith’s church hall. At that first meeting, discussion of topics included the possible development of a ‘Cultural Quarter’ concept along with wide-ranging discussion including:
- The planned refurbishment of the Bear Hotel
- The council’s ownership of East Pallant car park
- The regeneration of the town centre by the inclusion of inventive small scale shops and workshops
- The importance of the church hall as a multi-use venue.
The overriding belief was that Havant Civic Society should build a bridge between the residents and the Council, offering constructive suggestions and planning alternatives and more publicly holding elected representatives to account.
