Before you visit the Bloor Southleigh events – see previous post – you may want to familiarise yourself with the masterplan produced for Havant Borough Council in 2017.

The document predates the slightly more recent ‘preferred design’ for a significantly descoped A27 link, which was published in 2018 and covered in this previous HCS post. However, since these documents were published, the traffic situation in Havant has been significantly altered by the approval of ‘edge of town’ traffic generating businesses on the former New Lane manufacturing sites in the town centre.
These new operators, topped by Amazon which has increased traffic throughput by at least 2,000 vehicles per day, need access to the A27 and A3(M) strategic road junctions and this increased commercial traffic is already constrained by the limited crossing points over the national railway network, a fact consistently overlooked by Hampshire County Council highways planning officers.
A new A27 ‘Havant East’ junction is long overdue and one which would follow the route suggested in the 2017 Southleigh Masterplan, as shown in these two charts, could fit the bill. This would be useful point to bring up when commenting on Bloor Home’s own masterplan. It is also an important point to make when you fill in your responses to the current Local Plan consultation – see the details at this HCS post.

We are indebted to a local resident for bringing this earlier document to our attention. Thank you.
