Havant Civic Society believes Placemaking to have an important role in developing Havant Town Centre into a thriving destination to visit, work and to which residents can have pride in their town. Placemaking can be viewed and defined as a collaborative, multi-stakeholder process that goes beyond urban design and planning, to foster local identity, community, and economic vitality.
Effective placemaking is not a top-down initiative, but a coordinated approach – often part of broader place management – integrating the physical, social, and cultural aspects of a location to create places where people want to spend time.
At its heart people make a town and the new Business Group which has been established, should be a key grouping to assist the local authorities and other organisations to achieve the aims that Placemaking advocates to achieve a sustainable future.
HCS and the new Havant Business Group looks forward to re-establishing the town centre to once again become a thriving historic market town it once was, and deserves to be now and in the future.
