The front page format has been much the same since the current site was launched back in 2018 – that’s over five hundred articles ago – so the webmaster felt it was time for a change.
If you’ve not taken a look for a while, then click the HCS logo – the St. Faith’s image – at the top of any page to return to the newly refreshed home page. This page will now be rather more dynamic, changing automatically as new posts are published.
It’s now divided into three columns, with the main stories on in the left hand column, Havant Town Centre articles in the middle column and local general interest pieces in the right hand column, underneath the ‘Latest Posts’ section. That section will always contain the last five posts published..
If you’re only seeing one column, with the Headline Stories showing first, then you’re probably reading it on your phone. Just try rotating the phone into ‘landscape’ format and it should all pop into view.

At the bottom of the page, you’ll find a ‘word cloud’. With over five hundred blog posts on the site now, this’ll give you a good idea of the kind of subjects that we’ve been covering, with the size of the font indicating the frequency with which the subject comes up. Click on any of the individual words to show a list of the articles on that topic.

As we continue with the spring clean, that word cloud will automatically update and become more useful.
The website will get a full redesign when we have more time to put into it, still sticking within the total budget of £50 a year to cover the running costs. WordPress – the underlying tool set – has released a lot of new function since we put this one together in 2018, but we can’t use much of it yet without major surgery to the template that underpins it. Just think of this as being an interim facelift. There’ll be more to come in the autumn so watch this space.
That’s all for now so just scroll up to the top of this post, click on the picture of St Faith’s and catch up with the local news. And if you have any suggestions, do let us know.
