We are pleased to report that our local County Councillor for Emsworth & St Faith’s, Cllr Lulu Bowerman, has approved our application for a grant to support Havant Civic Society’s work to maintain and enhance the Havant Gazebo Garden. A total of £1,000 has been received, which will be used to update and reprint visitor leaflets, purchase some tables and much-needed sun shading, create children’s worksheets and buy more plants, seeds and tools.
This is an appropriate moment, therefore, to recognise the sterling efforts of the HCS members who keep the garden going. In particular, our Vice Chair, Peter Hammond, who as Gazebo Garden Coordinator manages the weekly rota of ‘caretakers’ who keep the site secure, unlocking and locking the gate every day in all weathers, produces the visitor leaflets and is our point of contact, and Ann Buckley, the gardening coordinator who organises our gardening volunteers and puts in many hours of work there herself.
More volunteers are always welcome, even with as small a commitment as a couple of hours per month. If you’re interested in in helping to maintain this valuable community asset, please take this link and follow the guidance.
