An unexpected end to ‘Shaping the Future’

The uncomfortable relationship between East Hants District Council (EHDC) and Havant Borough Council has come to an end, it seems.

The two local authority regions always made strange bedfellows and the ‘non-merger’ resulted in some questionable deliverables, the converged constitution, the Shaping our Future initiative being just two recent examples. Quite what it will mean for ‘Regeneration’ remains to be seen…..

Given the amount of time and effort spent on it and the loss of core Havant skills in the resulting ‘cost saving’ headcount reductions, it’s hard to see quite how this is going to move forward.

However, on the plus side, it presents a real opportunity for HBC to grasp, focus on its own context, listen to its own residents and small businesses and shape a future that works for all.
