Havant Civic Society was founded in October 2012 at a public meeting held in St Faith’s church hall. At that first meeting, discussion of topics included the possible development of a ‘Cultural Quarter’ concept along with wide-ranging discussion including:
The planned refurbishment of the Bear Hotel
The council’s ownership of East Pallant car park
The regeneration of the town centre by the inclusion of inventive small scale shops and workshops
The importance of the church hall as a multi-use venue.
The overriding belief was that Havant Civic Society should build a bridge between the residents and the Council, offering constructive suggestions and planning alternatives and more publicly holding elected representatives to account.
