This won’t be news to those of us who’ve been following the scheme in its formative design stages, but it is the first time that the plans have broken cover on the Havant Borough Council planning system. For those of you new to the subject, just click the image above to take a look through the full set of ‘Before and After’ visuals to gain an understanding of the difference the full scheme will make to this much loved coastline.
You don’t have to be eagle eyed to note that the set misses out the contentious proposals for ‘treatment’ of the collapsed millpond wall, which we covered last in this post from January 2024. Far more detail was included in this long and rambling post published in December 2023. The millpond remains a subject close to the hearts of many residents, but we should recognise that the immediate scope of this current planning application stops short, west of the mill buildings and their related pond.
The formally agreed scope of the Langstone Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk management scheme (FCERMS) is bounded by the red line in the plan below.
To comment on the planning application, simply click on the plan above. Note that the additional options on that page will also take you to the documents attached to the application.
But first a word of caution. This milestone represents the culmination of a significant amount of effort by a large team of experts, taking into account a significant amount of input from interested residents from the wider Langstone, St Faith’s and north Hayling areas and further afield. There’s a lot to read and take in, and we’d urge you to read widely into the available documentation before raising your comments.
We’ll post more commentary when we’ve had a chance to digest the content, so watch this space!
