HCS has been made aware of the following letter from Alan Mak MP which signals a welcome and timely intervention in local planning matters:
Southleigh Development – Use of residential roads for construction access
Dear Resident
I am writing to you in my capacity as your local Member of Parliament about the proposed housing development at Southleigh, and the use of nearby local roads for construction vehicle access. I have no statutory role in the planning process, which is entirely the responsibility of Havant Borough Council (HBC) as the local planning authority. Local councillors will decide whether the planning application from the property developer is successful, and they will be accountable for their decision directly to you.
However, whilst the full planning application has not yet been submitted to HBC for them to make a decision, I am clear on several aspects of the likely proposal, namely:
(1) development at Southleigh is only viable if there is a link road from the site to the A27 motorway;
and
(2) any new housing should be built without causing major disruption to the community around it.
I have been made aware that residential roads in Denvilles and nearby are a planned access route for construction vehicles and works traffic. I believe this is unacceptable.
If you agree with me, please sign my petition online at: www.AlanMak.org.uk/Southleigh
Yours sincerely,
Alan Mak MP
Member of Parliament for the Havant Constituency
HCS previously covered the need for this essential infrastructure improvement in our report on the well-attended meeting called by St Faith’s councillors at Warblington School in June 2025. (Click the image below to open that report.)
Forthcoming Development Consultation Forum
We understand that Havant Borough Council will be hosting Bloor Homes at a public Development Consultation Forum (DCF) at the Civic Plaza on 27 January. We will update this post once the date and time of the meeting is confirmed.
The detailed document referred to in our post from June is currently nearing completion and following internal review will be published on the HCS website in advance of the DCF. In the meantime, we would encourage you to take the link in the text of the MP’s letter, above, and consider adding your signature.
